Variable Checkerspot (Euphydryas chalcedona)

The Variable Checkerspot, or Anicia Variable Checkerspot, is a small butterfly common in the western United States, from Washington to Colorado, south to Utah and parts of Arizona. Its coloration is variable, typically black and orange, with cream colored areas as well.

Wing spread: 1.3" - 2.2"

Host Plants: Paintbrushes, monkey flowers, beardtongues, snowberries
