The New Hampshire Monarch Festival, held annually at Petals in the Pines in Canterbury since 2013, focuses on increasing public awareness of the Monarch’s plight, and ways to help them.

At Petals in the Pines, the MISSION is two-fold: first, to enable children of all ages, from infants and toddlers to teens, to experience NATURE in a safe and NURTURING environment; second, to encourage and educate adults in their personal exploration of the natural world that surrounds them.

The Certified Gardeners maintain a Butterfly House on the grounds of the park. The festival includes tours of the Butterfly House. There are several “Insect Zoos” in our area, and we will have one of them with a display set up. There will be presentations by a teacher from the Monarch Watch/Xerxes Society. We have kids’ activities including a bug and butterfly costume parade, giant monarch butterfly puzzles, games and crafts with a butterfly theme, and a balloon artist who does only bugs, flowers and butterflies. We have presentations and demonstrations on gardening for butterflies and pollinators. There is no admission fee, and the games, crafts, balloons, presentations and tours are all free.
