During our recent trip to the island country of Aruba, we had the opportunity to visit The Butterfly Farm near Oranjestad.

Personable, knowledgeable tour guides walk with you through the enclosed area, pointing out the dozens of species of butterflies. The guides also explain the life cycle of butterflies and their mating habits. On exhibit is a number of butterfly chrysalises waiting to open.

The farm is a well maintained, lush, tropical garden, flush with brilliant flowers. Restrooms are provided, as is a nicely stocked gift shop. Parking is free.

The Butterfly Farm is located on J. Irausquin Boulevard Z/N, in Oranjestad, Aruba, in the famous Palm Beach area, just across from the Aruba Divi Phoenix. Phone 297.586.3656. It is open 7 days a week.

The Malachite (Siproeta stelenes) is a large butterfly whose upperside is dark brown/black with green and creme colored patches. The underside is orange/brown with green patches.
