Empress Leilia

The Empress Leilia (Asterocampa leilia) butterfly is member of the emperor family, and found in Southern Arizona east to South Texas, and south to central Mexico. Its upperside is chestnut brown and white on a tawny background, and has a series of black ocelli on the hindwings.

The Empress Leilia is similar in coloration and markings to the Hackberry Emperor and the Tawny Emperor.

Wing spread: 1.5" - 2.0"

Rarely do they visit flowers - but carrion and manure are irresistable.
