Red Satyr Coloration, Characteristics and Size

The Red Satyr (Megisto rubricata) is a small, brown butterfly with an orange-copper colored flush on its forewing. It also features a black eye spot bordered with a gold ring on each wing.

It ranges from South Texas and West Texas, parts of Okalahoma, and into southern New Mexico, Arizona and Mexico.

The Red Satyr is often found in hot, arid environments, and prefers like live oak groves, oak-lined canyons and hill country settings.

Wing spread: 1 3/4" - 1 7/8"

Host Plants: Native grasses as well as St. Augustine and Bermuda grasses
