Horace's Duskywing Butterfly

The Horace's Duskywing (Erynnis horatius) butterfly ranges from Texas and the Gulf of Mexico to the northern U.S. states.

At first glance, this quick-flying, darting butterfly appears to be a moth. However, it is a member of the skipper family of butterflies. It is often found in oak woodlands and nearby fields, roadsides and clearings.

Compare to the Funereal butterfly with similar size and coloration.

Size: 1.25" - 1.75"
Host plants: wisteria, oaks
